The Roles of the Ucwalmicw Centre is to work with the youth to foster and promote pride in St’át’imc culture, traditions and lifestyles. The Centre develops meaningful programs that encourages the youth to find out more about their heritage which sparks their interest to reconnect with culture and improves self-esteem. By investing in our youth’s development to doing vital work in cultivating and harvesting they will be equipped with the skills to maintain a sustainable future.
Youth Skills Link

- Planning, planting and harvesting a garden.
- Food Preservation Methods: organic gardening, canning, fishing, drying fruits/vegetables, storing food in the root cellar and preserving seeds.
- Job Placements

Elders
- Language
- - elders who are fluent speakers teach other elders.
- Immersion Camps / Language
- - elders teach the youth at fishing camps.
- - elders teach the language in the garden.
Ucwalmicw Organic Community Garden
- Greenhouse - vegetables started early spring.
- Trees for Tomorrow - 240 fruit trees planted.
- Root Cellar - built in 2008 (fall) and vegetables stored through winter.
- Cob Oven - constructed in 2008 and finished in 2009.
- Roots Gathering Workshops.
- Smoke House - built in 2009.
