Ucwalmicw in the St'át'im'cets language means “people of the land”. The St'át'imc people’s way of life is interconnected to the land and all living things.

The Ucwalmicw Centre continually encourages youth to reconnect with their cultural heritage through their involvement in cultural activities.

Passing Knowledge

The Ucwalmicw Centre is a community arts and cultural centre, focused on revitalizing the customs, language, and strength of St'át'imc culture, connecting the traditions of the past with creative vision for the future. The Centre is a place where people from a variety of cultures come together to share their knowledge and skills and provide hands-on learning experiences for the youth. This approach promotes a better understanding, appreciation and respect for cultural diversity. By focusing on the youth, the Ucwalmicw Centre’s goal is to develop leadership skills to build a sustainable future.

The Ucwalmicw Centre’s approach to teaching focuses on transmitting the knowledge and values of St'át'imc culture. Through the various programs and activities of the Centre, youth and elders build bridges through observation and experiential learning and shared knowledge.
